Summer reading is crucial. Reading is like exercise; when you stop and then go back to it you will only have aches and pains. Continue reading so you are ready for school in September. Read the assigned book and the optional book if you want. The pdf of each book is included. Many libraries offer ebooks to be taken out online with a library card. Complete the assignment below and submit to your Language Arts teacher the first week of school.
- Discuss the theme (overall message) of the book.
- Write a character sketch of one of the characters where you include the personality and physical characteristics.
- Write about your favorite part of the book and why it is your favorite.
- Draw a new book cover for your book.
Required reading of Number the Stars by Lois Lowry
Matilda by Roald Dahl
As you read your book it is recommended that you have a sheet of paper folded in half as your “bookmark”. Record any new words, ideas, and your thoughts as you read. Keep in mind the assignment above, so you can refer to your “bookmark” when you do your assignment. This can easily be done with sticky notes as well. Enjoy your book and have a safe and healthy summer!
