Udhiya/Qurbani is a tradition of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), and has been
made obligatory on every Muslim man and woman who can afford to perform
it after fulfilling their other duties and responsibilities. It is
offered at the time of Eid-ul-Adha or during the 3 days of the Islamic
month of Dhulhijjah, namely the 10th, 11th, and 12th to show gratitude
towards Allah (SWT) and to provide for the poor and needy. Since it is
difficult to perform the Udhiya/Qurbani sacrifice in most western
countries, and there are also much poorer people elsewhere in the
Ummah, it is permissible to pay for a sacrifice to be performed on
one's behalf in another country, and for all the meat to be distributed
to the poor. One could also do some locally and some overseas. If
someone is able to carry out more than one Udhiya/Qurbani, then he can
perform additional ones on behalf of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), the Muslim
Ummah, his/her deceased parents/relatives etc. Insha’Allaah.
Baytul-Iman Academy is arranging for Muslims to perform the
Udhiya/Qurbani on your behalf in needy location(s) overseas and
distribute the meat to the poor.
